Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, will miss the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka due to ongoing ankle soreness. This setback comes after Cummins led Australia to a 3-1 victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Currently on paternity leave following the birth of his second child, Cummins’ participation in the Sri Lanka series was uncertain due to his injury.
Australia’s Chief Selector, George Bailey, confirmed that Cummins is awaiting the results of medical scans on his sore ankle. “Pat’s obviously on paternity leave for the next little bit. He’s got a little bit of a sore ankle as well, so in the next week or so, he’s got a scan coming, and we’ll get a bit more information around where that’s at,” Bailey said.

Cummins’ absence from the Sri Lanka series raises concerns about his participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which begins on February 19. Bailey expressed uncertainty about the pacer’s status but remains hopeful about his recovery.
In addition, Bailey provided an update on Josh Hazlewood’s recovery from a calf injury, stating that while Hazlewood is progressing well, he was not selected for the squad due to tightness. However, Bailey is confident that Hazlewood will be fit for the Champions Trophy.
