Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2023, capping off an exceptional year marked by a stellar bowling performance in the Test series against Pakistan. Cummins played a pivotal role in Australia’s triumphs throughout 2023, securing their maiden World Test Championship mace and winning their sixth Men’s Cricket World Cup earlier in the year.
In December, Cummins showcased outstanding leadership and bowling skills, particularly in the second Test against Pakistan in Melbourne. His remarkable performance included ten wickets in the match, featuring a crucial spell in the second innings. Notably, he claimed the prized wicket of a well-set Mohammed Rizwan, marking his 250th wicket in Test cricket. Cummins’ five for 48 in the second innings played a crucial role in Australia’s dramatic victory.

Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma secured the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for December, marking her first win in this category. Sharma’s outstanding individual performances for India across all three formats during the month contributed to notable victories against strong opponents, including England and Australia.
Sharma’s impressive month began with T20I encounters against England, followed by a standout performance in the Test against England in Mumbai. She scored 67 with the bat in the first innings and played a pivotal role with the ball, taking five crucial wickets in the first innings and four in the second, finishing with match figures of nine for 39. This remarkable performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
Continuing her exceptional run, Sharma top-scored with 78 runs in the middle order during the Test triumph against Australia, contributing to India’s eight-wicket victory. In the subsequent ODI matches against Australia, Sharma’s highlights included figures of five for 38 in the second encounter, despite India narrowly missing victory.
