Security Measures and Assistance from Rangers and Frontier Corps
Islamabad Police has formally requested assistance from the Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) starting from November 22 to manage the anticipated protests effectively. The government’s move is driven by concerns over potential clashes between protesters and security forces, as PTI members have threatened to escalate tensions with incumbent authorities. The deployment of paramilitary troops aims to maintain peace and prevent any violent escalation during the protests.
Section 144 Imposed in Islamabad
In anticipation of the protests, the government has imposed Section 144 in the city for two months, prohibiting gatherings of five or more people to avert any unrest. The PTI’s planned protest comes amidst accusations from Imran Khan that the current government, led by the Sharif family, has a “stolen mandate” and that the 26th constitutional amendment strengthens a “dictatorial regime.” PTI leaders have condemned these actions, calling the imposition of Section 144 “illegal” and a means to suppress peaceful protests.
The government’s decision to enforce these measures is seen as an attempt to control the situation and maintain order ahead of the mass demonstrations planned by PTI.
