Pakistan's Per Capita GDP Shows Positive Growth

Pakistan’s economy continues to show resilience and progress, with a per capita GDP of $1,680 in FY2024. Projections for FY2025 suggest further growth, reaching $2,405, reflecting Pakistan’s dedication to sustainable and inclusive development.

Islamabad leads the country with a per capita GDP of $2,996, far surpassing regional averages, including India’s national per capita income of $2,106. This strong economic performance in the capital city is a result of targeted development and investment strategies.

Provincially, Punjab posted a per capita income of $1,713.60, slightly above the national average by 2%. Sindh stands out with a per capita income of $1,748, indicating robust economic activity.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir also reported per capita incomes of $1,550 and $1,730, respectively, showcasing efforts toward regional development.

India’s Regional Inequalities Highlight Stark Economic Divides

In contrast, India continues to struggle with significant regional disparities. While southern states report a per capita income of $3,421, northern regions, dominated by Hindutva, lag behind with a mere $813, revealing deep economic inequalities.

India is also grappling with a severe poverty crisis, with the UNDP and Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative identifying it as home to the highest global poverty rate. An estimated 234 million people in India live below the poverty line. Additionally, youth unemployment has dramatically increased, soaring from 35.2% to 65.7%, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Despite facing challenges such as a $150 billion loss over two decades due to foreign-sponsored terrorism and the socio-economic strain of hosting 4 to 5 million Afghan refugees, Pakistan’s commitment to economic stability and growth remains evident.
