Pakistan’s spinner Nauman Ali has shattered a 37-year-old record previously held by legendary bowler Abdul Qadir during the first Test against South Africa at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Nauman became Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker across five consecutive Tests, claiming 46 wickets between his 16th and 20th matches. Qadir had taken 44 wickets in the same span during 1987–88. He is also currently the world’s most successful spinner over the past year.
In Lahore, Nauman Ali’s 10-wicket haul — six in the first innings and four in the second — guided Pakistan to a 1–0 series lead. Earlier this year, he impressed with multiple match-winning spells, including 6 and 10 wickets against the West Indies, and 11 and 9 against England in Multan and Rawalpindi.
At 39, Nauman Ali continues to defy age, also surpassing Iqbal Qasim’s long-standing record for the most five-wicket hauls by a Pakistani left-arm spinner. With nine five-fors to his name, he now stands as Pakistan’s most successful left-arm spinner in Test history.
