Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has praised the National Grid Company’s indigenization policy, highlighting its benefits for Pakistan’s industrial growth and cost efficiency.
Under the policy, contracts worth Rs. 12.673 billion have been awarded to local industries. The use of domestically produced transmission line conductors has generated around 40 percent savings compared to imported alternatives.
The initiative focuses on promoting local manufacturing through educational orders, joint ventures with international firms, and the creation of local subsidiaries. So far, nine educational orders worth Rs. 900 million have been issued, and 11 local companies have been registered for capability development.
Minister Leghari said the policy is helping Pakistan conserve foreign exchange. Locally manufactured materials allow faster completion of transmission infrastructure projects, reducing delays caused by import dependence.
The indigenization strategy is also expected to support export growth in sectors such as steel, cables, and conductors. This demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to reducing import reliance and building long-term economic resilience.
Officials emphasized that the policy strengthens Pakistan’s industrial base, providing opportunities for technological advancement and skill development. By prioritizing domestic production, the government is fostering a more self-reliant industrial ecosystem.
