Pakistani Survivors Among Migrants as Greece Boat Tragedy Unfolds

A tragic incident involving migrant boats near Greece’s southern islands resulted in five deaths and over three dozen missing individuals. According to Greek coast guard officials, the boats departed from Libya, carrying passengers from countries like Pakistan, Syria, Bangladesh, and Sudan.

In the first incident near Crete, several Pakistanis were among those rescued and later transported to the island. Two additional rescue operations saved nearly 50 and 86 migrants, respectively, near other Greek islands. However, the exact number of migrants remains uncertain as the search for the missing continues.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister has ordered a thorough investigation into human trafficking linked to these events. A committee, led by the Additional Secretary of the Interior Ministry, is tasked with submitting a detailed report within a week. The Minister condemned such trafficking, labeling it a heinous crime that devastates lives.
