Pakistani Students Secure Medals At Global Olympiad Competition

A team of four Pakistani students delivered a strong performance at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3, 2025. They secured four bronze medals, marking significant progress for Pakistan in the global competition.

The team members — Muhammad Aneeq, Ghulam Junaid, Muhammad Saram, and Ahmed Imran Malik — each earned a bronze medal. The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) confirmed these achievements in a recent statement.

This year, Pakistan ranked 32nd among 86 competing countries. This is a notable improvement compared to last year’s 46th place finish when Pakistan won two bronze medals. The team outperformed many developed countries including Germany, France, Italy, and New Zealand.

The Olympiad tests young talents in computer science, focusing on algorithms, problem-solving, and programming skills. It is one of the most respected international competitions for school students in this field.

The FBISE credited the team’s success to a transparent, merit-based selection process. Over 528 students nationwide registered for the Olympiad trials. The selection involved two competitive rounds conducted at 12 centers across Pakistan. These rounds narrowed the candidates to 25 finalists before choosing the top four to represent the country.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training assigned FBISE to manage Pakistan’s participation. Official notifications were sent to all education boards, including those offering Cambridge qualifications, ensuring wide access to the Olympiad.

FBISE congratulated the students, their mentors, and families for their hard work. The board emphasized that this achievement highlights Pakistan’s growing potential in science and technology fields.

Overall, Pakistan’s performance at this year’s Olympiad reflects the talent and determination of its youth. Continued support and opportunities may help Pakistan climb even higher in future Olympiads.
