Pakistani intelligence agencies have recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a key spokesperson of ISIS Khorasan in a major counterterrorism operation.

According to reports, Sultan Aziz Azzam, also known as Khariji Sultan Aziz Azzam, who served as the spokesperson of ISIS Khorasan (ISIS-K) and was the founding figure behind its official media arm, the Al-Azaim Foundation, has been taken into custody. The Al-Azaim Foundation played a central role in the group’s recruitment efforts and propaganda campaigns. Following Azzam’s arrest, ISIS-K’s media and outreach activities have reportedly come to a halt.

Sources indicate that Pakistani authorities have intensified operations against ISIS-K in recent months, leading to several high-profile arrests, including that of Sultan Aziz Azzam. These actions have significantly disrupted the group’s organizational and operational networks.

The 16th report by the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team acknowledged Pakistan’s counterterrorism measures, stating that they have weakened ISIS-K’s structure at the international level and prevented multiple planned attacks. The report also highlighted a noticeable decline in the group’s fighter strength following these operations.

Further information reveals that the arrest took place in May 2025 and coincided with the detention of another senior ISIS-K figure, Abu Yasir al-Turki. These coordinated actions have sharply reduced the group’s operational capacity.

As a result of the crackdown, major ISIS-K propaganda outlets, including “Voice of Khorasan,” have also been shut down, dealing a serious blow to the group’s influence and communication channels
