Ambush attempt on Kech convoy thwarted; 8 terrorists killed in follow-up operation ISPR

In Balochistan’s Kech district, the military’s media affairs branch said on Thursday that it had prevented an attempt to ambush a convoy of security troops. It also added that eight terrorists had been killed in the subsequent operation.

Terrorists allegedly attempted to ambush a convoy of security troops on February 22 in the evening, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

A follow-up operation to find the terrorists utilising “ground and aviation assets” was also launched, according to the statement, after “alert and combat ready troops foiled the cowardly attempt without any loss of life.”

As a result, a sanitization operation was started at a suspected terrorist hideaway in Mazaaband Range on the morning of February 23 (today), according to the ISPR.

According to the statement, there was a “strong exchange of fire” that resulted in the deaths of eight terrorists.

A significant amount of weapons and ammunition, including explosives, were also found.

The ISPR stated that “Pakistani security forces will continue to thwart any attempt by unfriendly elements, on [the] behest of enemy intelligence services, to disrupt the hard-earned tranquilly in the province.”

The event occurs as terrorist activity has increased across the nation, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since since the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an outlawed group, broke the government’s ceasefire in November.

In the Kohlu district of Balochistan, an IED detonated on February 10 and resulted in the deaths of two Pakistan Army soldiers.
