ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has welcomed the historic peace agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The deal was finalized at a summit held at the White House, under the patronage of US President Donald Trump.
The peace accord aims to end decades of hostility between the two South Caucasus nations. Their conflict, mainly over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, has caused significant suffering and regional instability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the agreement, calling it a “new era of peace, stability, and cooperation.” He congratulated Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on reaching the breakthrough.
“This deal reflects wisdom and foresight,” the prime minister said in a statement. He reaffirmed that Pakistan has always stood by the “brotherly nation” of Azerbaijan.
Sharif added that Pakistan fully supports Azerbaijan’s efforts to secure lasting peace in the region. He emphasized the importance of stability for regional development and integration.
The prime minister also acknowledged the role of US diplomacy in achieving the agreement. He commended President Trump for helping to bring the two sides together after years of conflict.
According to Shehbaz, the peace deal will open new doors for trade, regional connectivity, and long-term cooperation. He expressed hope that this spirit of dialogue could help solve other global disputes as well.
“This agreement is not just a win for Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said. “It shows that dialogue and international support can help resolve deep-rooted conflicts.”
Pakistan views the peace deal as a positive step toward a more stable South Caucasus. The government hopes it will serve as a model for peaceful conflict resolution worldwide.
