Pakistan Weather Alert Issued as Monsoon Rains, Flash Flood Risk Loom

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of NDMA has issued a fresh weather alert for large parts of Pakistan. This comes in response to a strong monsoon system and an incoming westerly wave expected to affect many regions from July 6 to 10.

Flash flood risks remain high in the northern areas from July 7 to 12 due to intense weather activity. The alert warns of moderate to heavy rainfall in different provinces, with possible disruptions to daily life.

In Punjab, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in cities like Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala. Southern Punjab areas including Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan may see light to moderate rain.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also on alert. Heavy rainfall is predicted in Swat, Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Charsadda. The region could face flash floods, especially in mountainous areas.

In Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely, especially during the evenings and nights. Areas including Skardu, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley are at risk of landslides and floods.

Sindh will see varied weather patterns. Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur could receive moderate rain, while heavy rainfall is forecast for Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu. This may lead to urban flooding and traffic problems.

Balochistan is also expecting scattered to heavy rainfall in Quetta, Zhob, and Sibi. Waterlogging, road blockages, and damage to weak structures are possible due to strong winds and lightning.

NDMA advises citizens to stay indoors during severe weather, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure household items. Tourists should avoid visiting high-altitude or flood-prone areas during this period.Local authorities have been directed to clear drainage systems and ensure the availability of emergency response teams. The public is urged to follow safety instructions and stay updated on the evolving weather conditions.
