Pakistan Warns UN: Afghanistan Becoming Terror Haven

Pakistan has issued a strong warning at the United Nations Security Council, stating that Afghanistan is once again turning into a “terrorists’ heaven” due to the unchecked presence of extremist groups. Pakistan’s representative told the UNSC that despite repeated calls for action, cross-border attacks targeting Pakistani civilians and security forces continue to rise, causing serious concern.

He highlighted that safe havens inside Afghanistan are enabling militants to regroup and plan violent activities. According to Pakistan’s envoy, these elements freely operate training centres, supply routes, and fundraising networks without facing meaningful restrictions from Afghan authorities, creating a severe security threat for the entire region. He warned that ignoring such developments may allow global terror networks to strengthen once again.

In his address, the Pakistani diplomat urged the international community to push Afghanistan’s interim government to take concrete steps against banned outfits. He stressed that counter-terrorism commitments must be honoured in both spirit and action, otherwise instability will spread across neighbouring countries. Pakistan, he said, has repeatedly shared evidence of terror groups’ movements but cooperation remains limited.

The envoy emphasised that Pakistan has suffered thousands of casualties over the years and cannot tolerate renewed waves of cross-border militancy. He called for a unified global response, arguing that terrorism cannot be defeated in isolation and requires strong international pressure, intelligence sharing, and sustained monitoring of Afghan territory.

He added that Pakistan remains committed to peace in the region and supports a stable, economically secure Afghanistan. However, he maintained that peace is impossible when violent groups enjoy operational freedom. He concluded by urging the UNSC to recognise the urgency of the situation and take timely action.

The statement echoed Pakistan’s long-standing concerns regarding the resurgence of militant networks in Afghanistan. Officials in Islamabad believe that only coordinated global efforts can prevent the situation from worsening further.
