Pakistan has asked India to fully implement the Indus Waters Treaty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

Speaking at the weekly media briefing, MoFA spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Pakistan remains committed to the treaty. He stressed that India must meet its obligations under the agreement.

Andrabi confirmed that Pakistan’s Indus Waters Commissioner has formally sent questions to his Indian counterpart. These questions relate to water management issues under the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan now expects India to provide clear and timely responses.

The spokesperson said the treaty is a key legal framework between the two countries. He added that Pakistan will continue to raise water-related concerns through official channels.

Andrabi also spoke about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He said human rights violations by Indian forces are continuing in the region. He noted that United Nations human rights bodies have also highlighted these concerns.

He reiterated that Pakistan will continue raising the Kashmir issue at international forums. According to him, Pakistan believes the issue remains unresolved.

On regional diplomacy, Andrabi said Pakistan considers the statement by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi accurate. The statement referred to possible mediation efforts between Pakistan and India. He expressed confidence in China’s constructive role.

The MoFA spokesperson also shared updates on bilateral confidence-building measures. He said Pakistan and India have exchanged nuclear facility lists. The exchange took place simultaneously in Islamabad and New Delhi.

In addition, both countries exchanged lists of prisoners. According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan handed over details of 257 Indian prisoners to India.

Andrabi also addressed Pakistan’s position on international developments. He said Pakistan rejects Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He announced that strategic talks between Pakistan and China will take place in Beijing from January 4. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at the talks.

Addressing regional travel issues, Andrabi said Pakistan’s mission in Afghanistan stayed in contact with Pakistani nationals there. Since the recent border closure, 291 Pakistanis have returned home. This group includes 15 students.
