Pakistan Calls for Global Cooperation Amid Growing Conflicts

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change, Musadik Malik, highlighted growing unilateralism and a weakening global order at the 11th UNAOC Global Forum on Monday.

Speaking at the forum themed “UNAOC: Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity,” Malik noted increasing global conflicts, trade disputes, and declining funding for environmental and developmental priorities. He warned that these trends could threaten peace and stability worldwide.

“Bilateralism is increasingly giving way to unilateral actions, with serious consequences for global justice and cooperation,” Malik said. He urged nations to strengthen multilateral engagement and collaborative problem-solving.

Focus on Rights and Justice

The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to universal rights and justice. He stressed women’s rights, minority rights, environmental protection, and children’s rights as fundamental and non-negotiable.

Malik criticized selective enforcement of international principles and emphasized that rights should be applied consistently. He also highlighted ongoing crises in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling on the international community to uphold the rights of affected populations according to international law.

Water Rights and Regional Stability

Highlighting regional cooperation, Malik stressed the importance of fair and equitable water sharing. He noted that upper riparian states must consider the needs of lower riparian nations. Proper water distribution, he said, is essential for sustainable development, human security, and regional stability.

Concluding his address, Malik said that the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations serves as a reminder for nations to recommit to dialogue, peace, and mutual respect.

The minister’s address underlined Pakistan’s focus on multilateral solutions, human rights, environmental protection, and regional cooperation. It also called for renewed global commitment to collective problem-solving amid increasing unilateral actions worldwide.
