Pakistan’s election to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) with an overwhelming majority underscores the country’s commitment to global peace and stability. As a member of the UNSC, Pakistan pledges to play a constructive role in resolving disputes through peaceful means, combatting terrorism in all its forms, and promoting democracy, transparency, and accountability.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson expressed gratitude to the UN General Assembly, particularly the Asia-Pacific Group, for their confidence in Pakistan’s capabilities. Pakistan’s agenda in the UNSC includes supporting UN peacekeeping efforts, addressing regional and international crises, and advocating for democratic values.
Emphasizing the importance of regulated movement across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to upholding human rights and enforcing its laws effectively. Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan is set to participate in a quadrilateral meeting with envoys from Iran, China, and Russia to discuss regional peace and stability.

Concerning the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Pakistan condemned India’s human rights abuses and called for accountability for over 7,000 reported custodial deaths in the region. Additionally, Pakistan denounced the bombing of a UN-run school in Gaza by Israeli forces, urging accountability for violations of international law.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at an extraordinary meeting of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China resulted in the signing of 23 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
Finally, Pakistan expressed condolences on the passing of the Tunisian Ambassador in Islamabad, highlighting the importance of diplomatic relations and extending sympathies to the Tunisian government and the bereaved family.
