Pakistan to Send First Astronaut to China’s Tiangong Station

In a landmark step toward enhanced space collaboration, Pakistan will soon have one of its astronauts aboard a future mission to China’s Tiangong space station. This historic development was confirmed by Chinese officials on Wednesday, marking a significant moment for Pakistan’s space program.

The announcement follows a pivotal agreement signed between Islamabad and Beijing earlier this year. According to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), Pakistan is currently carrying out the preliminary selection of candidates, with subsequent evaluations and training to be conducted in China. Two finalists will be chosen, one of whom will join a spaceflight as a payload specialist.

CMSA spokesperson Lin Xiqiang revealed that the chosen astronaut will undertake not only routine crew responsibilities but also scientific research on behalf of Pakistan. This move is part of China’s broader vision to include international astronauts in its growing space missions and foster global scientific partnerships.

Meanwhile, China is gearing up for the launch of its Shenzhou-20 manned mission. The mission will transport three astronauts to Tiangong, where they will carry out advanced scientific experiments, spacewalks, and biological research, contributing to long-term goals of sustained human presence in low Earth orbit.

The inclusion of a Pakistani astronaut reflects Pakistan’s growing scientific ambitions and deepening ties with China. With more international astronauts expected to participate in China’s missions, this collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in space exploration for Pakistan.
