Pakistan will establish a special protection unit in Islamabad to ensure the security of Chinese nationals, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Wednesday.
Naqvi made the announcement during a meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, at the Ministry of Public Security headquarters in Beijing. The discussion focused on strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.
Both ministers agreed to develop a joint rapid-response system to counter terrorism and expand training programs to improve police capabilities. Wang Xiaohong praised Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and acknowledged the country’s sacrifices in fighting terrorism over the years.
Emphasizing the importance of protecting Chinese citizens and joint development projects, Naqvi said the new protection unit in Islamabad is part of existing measures to ensure safety.
The meeting also addressed cooperation in cybercrime prevention. Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s interest in utilizing Chinese artificial intelligence technologies to support the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency in tackling security challenges.
To formalize ongoing collaboration, both countries agreed to hold joint working group meetings every three months. Additionally, an annual ministerial-level meeting will take place to review progress and plan future initiatives.
Officials also exchanged invitations for official visits, including participation in the Global Security Cooperation Forum scheduled to be held in China this September.
The formation of the special protection unit is expected to strengthen Pakistan-China relations and enhance the safety of Chinese nationals residing in the country. Experts said it demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to protecting foreign nationals and supporting joint development projects.
Authorities in Pakistan believe that close cooperation with China in security, cybercrime, and counter-terrorism will boost overall regional stability and provide a safer environment for both citizens and international investors.
