Pakistan will host the World Masters Weightlifting Championship in Islamabad next February, marking one of the biggest international sporting events in its history.
Over 500 athletes from all seven continents are expected to compete, with the championship being held under the prestigious “Grand Prix” banner alongside the Asian Masters Championship, featuring both men’s and women’s events.
Pakistan Masters Weightlifting Association (PMWA) President Arshad Khan called it a “major milestone,” highlighting it as global recognition of Pakistan’s consistent success at the Masters level and a boost to its reputation as an international sporting host.
Ahead of the event, a five-member International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) delegation will visit Islamabad from September 9–12 to inspect venues and review preparations. Officials believe the championship will showcase Pakistan’s sporting capabilities and strengthen its profile for future large-scale international tournaments.
