Pakistan to Host Historic Under-23 World Squash Championship

Pakistan is set to host its first-ever Under-23 World Squash Championship, taking place from April 6 to 10 at the DHA Creek Club Squash Stadium. The event will feature 32 countries and is poised to be the first major international squash event in Pakistan in decades. This will also be the first time the world governing body has organized a World Championship for this age group.

The Under-23 Championship is particularly significant as squash has been included in the 2028 Summer Olympics. As a result, this event offers a crucial opportunity for top players to showcase their skills and potentially qualify for the Olympic Games.

Pakistan’s rich history in squash, with legends such as Jahangir Khan, Hashim Khan, and Jansher Khan, continues to inspire the current generation. Most recently, Hamza Khan’s victory in the 2023 World Junior Squash Championship added to the nation’s legacy. Pakistan’s dominance in squash peaked in the 1980s and 1990s, especially during the reigns of Jahangir and Jansher, who accumulated multiple World Open and British Open titles, with Jahangir setting an unofficial record of 555 consecutive match victories.

In preparation for the championship, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced a financial contribution of Rs30 million from the Sindh government.
