Pakistan to Distribute 700,000 Google Chromebooks to Students

Pakistan will distribute 700,000 Google Chromebooks to students nationwide as part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, announced Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Mashhood said the initiative aims to enhance digital learning by providing students with modern tools to tackle both national and global challenges. He emphasized that the country’s youth are its greatest asset and that technology-driven education can help unlock their full potential.

The Chromebooks, supplied by a partnering organization, will be provided to students in schools, colleges, and universities across Pakistan. The devices will grant access to online learning platforms, updated academic resources, and software that supports research and creative activities.

Mashhood explained that distribution will occur in phases to ensure transparency and fair allocation according to each institution’s needs and readiness. A national monitoring system will track usage and outcomes to optimize learning in classrooms and remotely. The programme also aims to bridge the digital gap between urban and rural areas, with students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan included in the initiative.

He highlighted that growing confidence among overseas Pakistanis is encouraging investments in education and skill development, creating jobs and opportunities in emerging sectors.

Mashhood concluded that the Chromebook Programme reflects the government’s long-term commitment to modernizing education and empowering Pakistan’s youth through digital learning.
