Pakistan Sets Mango Export Target at 125,000 Tonnes for 2025 Season
ISLAMABAD – May 23, 2025: Pakistan is aiming to export 125,000 tonnes of mangoes this season, with projected foreign exchange earnings of $100 million, according to the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Association (PFVA).
PFVA Chairman Waheed Ahmed announced that mango exports will officially begin on May 25. He expressed optimism about this year’s outlook, citing improved yields and expanding global demand for Pakistani mangoes.
“This year, mango production is expected to reach 1.44 million tonnes, and we are anticipating entry into new international markets, including South Africa,” Ahmed stated. A delegation of South African quarantine officials is expected to visit Pakistan soon to assess and approve export protocols.
Focus on China, Turkey, and Emerging Markets
In addition to traditional export destinations, the PFVA plans to intensify efforts in the Chinese and Turkish markets. Pakistan will also continue to enhance its mango trade with countries like Japan, Australia, the United States, and South Korea.
PFVA Raises Concerns Over Freight Charges
While outlining export strategies, the PFVA urged the federal government to take immediate notice of unjustified additional freight charges being imposed by shipping companies, which they argue could undermine export competitiveness.
Waheed Ahmed stressed the importance of government intervention, saying that “excessive freight costs are eating into the profits of exporters and threatening the sustainability of our fruit exports.”
Pakistan is among the top mango-producing countries globally, and the fruit is one of its major agricultural exports, especially during the summer months.
