The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that the first Supermoon of 2025 will appear on Tuesday, lighting up skies across Pakistan and worldwide.
SUPARCO spokesperson Maria Tariq explained that a Supermoon occurs when the Moon comes closest to Earth in its orbit, appearing about 14% larger and up to 30% brighter than a normal full moon.
The October Supermoon will reach peak brightness at 8:47 p.m. (PST), rising in the east after sunset and setting before sunrise in the west. On this night, the Moon will be around 224,599 miles (361,867 km) away, looking roughly 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than usual.
This will be the first of three Supermoons in 2025, followed by others on November 5 and December 5. The brightest one is expected in November, when the Moon will be just 221,817 miles (357,040 km) from Earth.
Adding to the spectacle, Saturn will appear near the Moon on October 6 and 7, visible to the west of the lunar disk.
SUPARCO urged astronomy lovers, photographers, and skywatchers to enjoy the rare sight, noting that such celestial events highlight the beauty and complexity of our solar system.
