In a significant triumph over India on the global stage, Pakistan secured the position of Vice Chair of the UNESCO Executive Board for the 2023-2025 term from the Asia Pacific Group, garnering an overwhelming majority.
During the elections at the 218th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris, Pakistan received 38 votes out of the total 58, establishing a clear advantage over India, which secured only 18 votes.

Expressing gratitude, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch thanked the members of the Executive Board and all UNESCO member states for their substantial support and trust in Pakistan’s candidacy. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities with credibility, honest dialogue, and mutual respect.

Baloch also emphasized that Pakistan, as a staunch supporter of multilateralism, will collaborate with UNESCO member states to mobilize collective efforts in advancing common objectives, including the organization’s global priorities such as Africa, Gender Equality, and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Operational Strategy.
