Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed optimism that a long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza is within reach. He thanked US President Donald Trump and key Muslim nations for their mediation efforts, describing the developments as a positive step toward lasting Gaza Peace.
Taking to his official X account, the prime minister said Pakistan has “always stood with the Palestinian people” and pledged to continue supporting diplomatic initiatives. He highlighted the engagement of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkiye, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia during talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Hamas’ latest statement creates a “window for a ceasefire and ensuring peace that must not close again.” Pakistan remains committed to working with all partners and brotherly nations to achieve enduring Gaza Peace.
Earlier, US President Trump announced that Hamas was “ready for a lasting peace” and urged Israel to halt its bombing campaign in Gaza. Trump’s 20-point plan outlines measures including an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners, a staged Israeli military withdrawal, disarmament of Hamas, and the creation of a transitional governance body involving Arab and Islamic states.
Hamas agreed to release all captives, including both living hostages and remains, and expressed readiness to transfer Gaza’s administration to a Palestinian technocratic body supported by Arab and Muslim states. However, the group rejected foreign-led oversight and disarmament demands, stressing that sovereignty and occupation issues must be resolved first.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office described Hamas’s openness to dialogue as an important opportunity to advance a ceasefire and stop the bloodshed. It also urged the uninterrupted provision of humanitarian aid to millions of Palestinians affected by the conflict. Pakistan praised US mediation efforts as a welcome step toward regional stability.
Analysts note that if the ceasefire holds, it could mark the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the conflict began nearly two years ago, creating a new opportunity for lasting Gaza Peace.
