Pakistan Strongly Counters UN Rights Chief’s Remarks on 27th Amendment

Pakistan firmly rejected the UN human rights chief’s recent statement regarding the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling the remarks misleading and based on incorrect information.

Officials clarified that the amendment is still under national debate and no final decision has been made, stressing that external commentary is premature and unnecessary.

The Foreign Office said the UN official ignored Pakistan’s constitutional process, which ensures that any amendment is discussed in parliament with full public and political participation.

Authorities added that Pakistan remains committed to protecting fundamental rights and ensuring that all legislative changes align with constitutional guarantees for citizens.

The government criticised the tone of the UN statement, saying it created confusion and misrepresented Pakistan’s internal democratic procedures.

Pakistan reaffirmed that it values constructive engagement but will not accept external pressure or misinterpretation of its constitutional matters.
