Pakistan is engaging in discussions with Netflix and several other leading international streaming platforms to increase the availability of Pakistani films and television dramas for viewers around the world. The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to create more opportunities for local filmmakers, producers, and creative professionals while promoting the country’s entertainment industry on a global scale.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said the government is working to build long-term and mutually beneficial partnerships with major streaming services. The objective is to improve the international presence of Pakistani productions and provide local creators with greater access to global audiences.
According to the minister, expanding the reach of Pakistani entertainment is an important component of the government’s strategy to strengthen the country’s creative economy. By increasing the visibility of locally produced content, officials hope to support the growth of Pakistan’s film and television sectors while creating new opportunities for artists, writers, directors, and production companies.
Iqbal noted that Pakistani dramas and films have already earned widespread appreciation in many countries because of their engaging storytelling, cultural themes, and strong performances. He said this growing international recognition makes the entertainment industry a valuable contributor to Pakistan’s export potential under the government’s Uraan Pakistan initiative.
The minister explained that global streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video serve as important gateways for reaching millions of viewers worldwide. However, he stated that regional political factors have limited the availability and visibility of Pakistani content on some international platforms, reducing its potential global audience.
To address these challenges, the government is holding talks with Netflix and other streaming companies to review the current regional framework and explore ways to improve access for Pakistani productions. Officials are seeking a fairer environment that allows local content to compete alongside international programming.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that the government’s priority is to secure equal opportunities for Pakistani creators while establishing sustainable partnerships with leading digital streaming platforms. He said these efforts aim to ensure that Pakistani stories, films, and television dramas receive the international exposure they deserve, helping the country’s entertainment industry expand its global footprint and reach new audiences across different markets.
