Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Riyadh on an official visit at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, receiving a grand welcome that included a Saudi Air Force F-15 escort, a 21-gun salute, and full royal protocol.
Upon arrival at King Khalid Airport, the Prime Minister was warmly received by senior Saudi and Pakistani officials. Riyadh was decorated with Pakistan’s national flags, underscoring the significance of the visit. Later, at Al-Yamamah Palace, Shehbaz Sharif held formal talks with the Crown Prince, attended by top Pakistani ministers and military leadership.
Both leaders signed the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement (SMDA), a landmark pact pledging that an attack on one country will be treated as an attack on both. The agreement emphasizes joint defense, enhanced military cooperation, and Pakistan’s role in safeguarding the Two Holy Mosques.
The joint statement highlighted nearly eight decades of close ties, reaffirming shared commitments to security, regional stability, and prosperity. Officials said the agreement would also strengthen economic and diplomatic cooperation, marking a historic milestone in Pakistan-Saudi relations
