Pakistan Replaces Sarfaraz Ahmed with Rizwan for Second Test

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Australia has maintained the same XI for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, aiming to secure the series against Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan has replaced veteran wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed with Rizwan after suffering injuries to key players from their lineup.

The first Test in Perth saw the hosts, led by Shan Masood’s side, defeated by 360 runs within four days, with pace bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood performing strongly and uninjured.

Scott Boland, who made an impressive debut at the MCG against England in 2021 with figures of 6-7, misses out this time. Captain Cummins expressed admiration for Boland, stating he remains ready should the need arise and emphasizing the importance of staying prepared.

Weather forecasts indicate showers and potential thunderstorms on the first day, clearing by Wednesday afternoon. Despite this, Cummins is confident about achieving a result and believes there will be ample time to finish the game.

The MCG pitch appears favorable, with a notable amount of grass, harder conditions, and less greenery compared to the previous year.

Pakistan, dealing with injuries, will have Mohammad Nawaz taking the gloves. Due to injuries ruling out Khurram Shahzad, Abrar Ahmed, and Noman Ali, the team named a 12-man squad, excluding Sarfaraz Ahmed and speedster Faheem Ashraf.

With Rizwan taking over the wicketkeeping duties, Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali are contenders to fill Shahzad’s place in the attack alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi and newcomer Aamer Jamal. Sajid Khan remains the sole spin option in the lineup due to Ahmed and Ali being sidelined.

According to Masood, the decision to replace Sarfaraz Ahmed with Rizwan is tactical, considering the conditions and what each player can contribute.
