Pakistan recorded a new monthly high in tobacco exports, reaching $34 million in September 2025, according to provisional figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). During the first quarter of FY26, tobacco exports totaled $74 million, marking an 8% year-on-year increase.
This growth comes despite the Federal Board of Revenue’s recent tightening of regulations for moving processed tobacco from GLT units and warehouses under rules introduced in July 2025.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) notes that tobacco consumption in Pakistan leads to approximately 164,000 deaths each year and causes economic losses exceeding Rs. 700 billion ($2.5 billion).
