Pakistan Surpasses India in Global Happiness Rankings 2025
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has ranked happier than India in the latest Global Happiness Poll conducted by Gallup, in collaboration with the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the World Happiness Report’s Editorial Board.
The World Happiness Report, a key reference for policymakers aiming to prioritize wellbeing, uses data from the Gallup World Poll to compile its annual rankings. The 2025 edition explores the impact of caring and sharing on happiness, alongside revealing the world’s happiest nations.
According to the new rankings, Pakistan stands at the 109th position out of 147 countries, showcasing higher positive emotions (139) compared to negative emotions (114).

Meanwhile, India ranks 118th, with higher negative emotions (117) than positive (89), reflecting a lower happiness score under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP government.
At the top, Finland retains its title as the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year, with an impressive life evaluation score of 7.736 out of 10.
Other notable shifts include Costa Rica (6th) and Mexico (10th) breaking into the top 10 for the first time. Eastern and Central European countries like Lithuania (16th), Slovenia (19th), and Czechia (20th) also continued their upward momentum, narrowing the happiness gap with Western Europe.
On the flip side, the United States (24th) and the United Kingdom (23rd) recorded their lowest-ever happiness rankings, highlighting a dip in life satisfaction among their citizens.
