Pakistan Railways Posts Rs.17B Freight Revenue in First Half of 2025–26

Pakistan Railways has achieved remarkable results in the freight sector during the first half of the financial year 2025–26, generating over Rs. 17 billion in just six months.

Despite several days of strikes, the freight sector remained strong, earning more than Rs. 3 billion in November and December. Officials said this performance reflects the organization’s effective strategy and operational stability.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi praised Pakistan Railways management for maintaining momentum. He said freight revenue is expected to exceed Rs. 38 billion by the end of the financial year if current trends continue.

Abbasi also expressed confidence that Pakistan Railways could become the first national institution to achieve Rs. 1 trillion in revenue in 2026, marking a historic milestone for the country.

To improve passenger experience, the Minister announced that all trains will be upgraded in phases by the end of 2026. The upgrades will focus on safety, comfort, and modernization. CCTV cameras will be installed in all trains, and full digitalization of Pakistan Railways operations will be completed next year.

On security, Abbasi highlighted reforms in the Railway Police. Officers have been trained using modern methods, improving passenger safety and confidence. He described the current Railway Police as the best in the organization’s 78-year history.

The Minister also emphasized transparent recruitment, action against ticketless travel, anti-smuggling measures, and strong steps to prevent theft. These reforms have significantly strengthened overall performance.

Abbasi reaffirmed his commitment to continue reforms at full pace. His goal is to make Pakistan Railways financially strong, secure, passenger-friendly, and modern.
