Pakistan Prepares for Unified Ramadan Moon Sighting

The federal government has taken a significant step to ensure a unified start to Ramadan across Pakistan by convening the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Peshawar. The meeting, scheduled for February 28, 2025, will be led by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and aims to foster consensus on the moon sighting for Ramadan 1446 Hijri.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has stated that while zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will hold their meetings in different regions, the final decision will come from the central body. This decision is seen as crucial in addressing the historical differences in moon sighting, particularly between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces.

In addition to religious preparations, Lahore is gearing up for the holy month by opening 10 model bazaars across the city. These markets, aimed at providing discounted goods, are set up under the supervision of the district administration to ensure quality shopping experiences for citizens during Ramadan.

Each bazaar will have dedicated shops for various food items, including fruits, vegetables, meat, and spices, with separate counters to accommodate women, senior citizens, and general customers. This initiative is expected to enhance shopping convenience and make Ramadan more accessible for everyone.
