Pakistan Launches Strikes on TTP, Daesh Camps in Afghanistan

Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have reached a critical point after Pakistan launched military strikes against alleged militant hideouts inside Afghanistan. The operation has intensified an already fragile security and diplomatic situation following recent suicide bombings and cross-border clashes.

Pakistan’s Information Ministry stated that the strikes targeted camps near the border linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which the state refers to as “Fitna al Khawarij,” along with affiliates and Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISKP). Officials described the action as a precise, intelligence-based response to a wave of deadly suicide attacks in Pakistan.

The strikes followed major incidents, including a bombing at an Imam Bargah in Islamabad and deadly attacks in Bajaur and Bannu during Ramazan. Authorities claimed they possess solid evidence that the assaults were planned by militant leaders operating from Afghan territory, with responsibility reportedly claimed by Afghanistan-based TTP elements.

While reiterating its commitment to regional peace, Pakistan stressed that protecting its citizens remains its top priority. Officials accused the Afghan Taliban administration of failing to prevent militant groups from using Afghan soil to stage attacks across the border, despite repeated diplomatic engagement.

Islamabad also urged the international community to press Afghan authorities to fulfill commitments made under the Doha Agreement, particularly the pledge to prevent Afghan territory from being used against other countries.

Tensions have remained strained since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021 but escalated sharply after a February 16 suicide bombing in Bajaur that killed 11 soldiers and injured civilians. Days later, another suicide attack in Bannu claimed the lives of a lieutenant colonel and a sepoy, further worsening bilateral tensions.
