Pakistan Joins Board of Peace, PM Sharif Hopes for Gaza Stability

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced outside the country’s High Commission in London that Pakistan has joined the Board of Peace, expressing hope that it will bring stability to Gaza and ensure the Palestinian people receive their rights with dignity.

Speaking about his Davos visit, Sharif described it as “very good” and said US President Donald Trump conveyed his good wishes for Pakistan. He also noted that IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva praised Pakistan’s reforms during a meeting.

On Thursday, Sharif signed the Board of Peace charter in Davos alongside other founding members. The board, hosted by Trump, aims to resolve international conflicts and reportedly requires a $1 billion fee for permanent membership.

Originally intended to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction after the conflict between Hamas and Israel, the Board’s charter has sparked concerns about its potential role beyond the Strip and whether it could rival the United Nations.

At the launch event, Trump stated that Hamas must disarm under the Gaza ceasefire agreement or face “the end” of the Palestinian movement, emphasizing the need for compliance with the ceasefire.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office highlighted that the country’s participation aligns with the UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and is focused on securing a lasting ceasefire, increasing humanitarian aid, and supporting Gaza’s post-conflict reconstruction. Authorities expressed hope that these steps will help fulfill the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
