Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the newly established Geoscience Labs of the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad. The upgraded research facility aims to modernize the country’s mineral exploration capabilities and attract foreign investment to its $6 trillion mineral reserves.
Officials said the state-of-the-art Geoscience Labs are equipped with advanced technology and certified under international ISO standards. The facility will produce reliable, globally recognized data to support mining and exploration projects across Pakistan.
According to the Geological Survey of Pakistan, the new labs will help generate mineral data compatible with global mining standards. This advancement is expected to boost transparency, improve investor confidence, and enhance Pakistan’s reputation as a growing hub for mineral research and exploration.
The project revamps a facility that was first established in 1999 but had become outdated due to limited funding and aging equipment. The upgraded Geoscience Labs now offer cutting-edge tools for geological analysis, allowing scientists and researchers to study mineral deposits with greater precision.
Officials said the labs would play a key role in mapping Pakistan’s rich mineral resources, including copper, gold, lithium, and rare earth elements. The data produced will help mining companies and investors make informed decisions, ensuring better efficiency and resource utilization.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the modernization of GSP’s research facilities aligns with the government’s goal of using technology to unlock Pakistan’s natural wealth. He said the new labs will also support economic growth and job creation in the mining and industrial sectors.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, federal ministers, and foreign dignitaries.
