The Pakistan government has introduced comprehensive reforms to improve the petroleum sector and enhance transparency, according to Radio Pakistan.
The Petroleum Division has implemented a Track and Trace System. This system aims to eliminate fuel smuggling at petrol pumps and across the supply chain.
A new Raahguzar Mobile App has been launched. It allows consumers to check information about legal and registered petrol pumps.
Fuel tankers, retail outlets, and storage terminals are now connected to an integrated monitoring system. This ensures better oversight and reduces illegal activities.
Automatic tank gauges and digital nozzles will be installed at petrol pumps. These devices will track fuel flow and improve transparency for consumers.
The government held offshore oil and gas bidding last year for the first time in eighteen years. Bids were received for twenty-three blocks.
To ensure a fair process, a new online portal will be introduced. It will provide transparency for oil and gas block auctions and encourage investor participation.
Amendments have been made to the Petroleum Act of 1934. These changes will enforce stricter action against illegal petroleum products in the market.
A transparent reporting system has been implemented in the gas sector. This tracks supply, demand, prices, and circular debt to prevent misreporting and inefficiencies.
The government has also revised the petroleum levy. Petrol now carries an extra Rs4.65 per litter, raising the levy from Rs79.62 to Rs84.27 per litter.
High-speed diesel sees an increase of Rs0.80 per litter, moving from Rs75.41 to Rs76.21 per litter. Kerosene oil levy has gone up by Rs1.41 per litter, from Rs18.95 to Rs20.36 per litter.
Officials noted that maintaining previous levy levels could have slightly reduced fuel prices, but the new system aims to strengthen monitoring and enforcement.
Experts say these reforms in the petroleum sector will curb smuggling, improve accountability, and support long-term energy planning. You can also see how the new petroleum levy affects consumers in Govt Increases Petroleum Levy Pakistan to Absorb Global Price Relief.
