NCCIA Launches Probe into 500 Social Media Accounts Over Anti-State Propaganda in Pakistan
Amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has identified over 500 social media accounts suspected of orchestrating a coordinated anti-state propaganda campaign.
According to official sources, the accounts—detected on May 8—were reportedly engaged in a systematic online effort to destabilize the country and exploit the ongoing geopolitical climate. The NCCIA has officially launched an in-depth investigation into these digital activities.
“These social media accounts have been spreading false information and anti-national narratives at a time when the country is facing heightened sensitivity,” a senior official revealed, adding that the campaign may involve links to foreign hostile elements.

Specialized cybercrime teams are currently analyzing the digital footprints and online behavior of the suspected users. The NCCIA is also working closely with intelligence and law enforcement agencies to trace the networks and origins of the operation.
To unmask the individuals behind these accounts, the agency has requested access to biometric and identity data from NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority). The goal is to swiftly identify any individuals or institutions aiding in the dissemination of this propaganda.
“Efforts are underway to retrieve all relevant digital and biometric records,” the official added. “This will help in taking swift and targeted action against those attempting to undermine national security.”
Authorities have made it clear that those found guilty of running or supporting such destabilizing campaigns will face strict legal consequences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and other applicable laws.
