Pakistan And Afghan Taliban Hold Crucial Talks In Doha After Clashes

A high-level Pakistani delegation, led by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, held crucial talks with the Afghan Taliban in Doha. The discussions focused on addressing cross-border clashes, promoting regional peace, and enhancing security cooperation.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the dialogue aimed to prevent terrorism originating from Afghan soil. The delegation emphasized Islamabad’s commitment to peaceful cooperation and dialogue, stating, “Pakistan does not seek any tension.”

The talks also highlighted Pakistan’s expectation that the Afghan Taliban take verifiable action against terrorist groups, including FAK/TTP and FAH/BLA, which threaten Pakistan’s security. Officials stressed that Islamabad’s legitimate security concerns must be respected to restore trust along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.

The Afghan Taliban delegation, led by Interim Defence Minister Maulvi Mohammad Yaqoob, confirmed their participation in the Doha discussions. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the talks were held as promised, with the goal of reducing tensions and strengthening cooperation on border management and security measures.

Pakistan appreciated Qatar’s mediation role in facilitating these discussions. The Foreign Office noted that Doha’s efforts are essential for fostering long-term peace and stability in the region. Both sides hope that the ongoing talks will lead to tangible progress in countering cross-border terrorism.

The dialogue follows a major border clash that occurred on October 11–12, when Afghan Taliban forces opened fire across the Pakistan–Afghanistan border. Pakistan Army retaliated, killing around 200 Afghan personnel and Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists. A moving Taliban tank was also destroyed during the counterattack.

A 48-hour ceasefire was agreed upon following the clash and has been extended to allow the peace talks to continue. Officials from both sides hope the negotiations will prevent further violence and help establish a framework for ongoing cooperation.
