Pakistan Hockey Federation Directed To Conduct Elections Within Two Months

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been instructed to conduct long-pending elections within two months. The order was issued by a parliamentary sub-committee aiming to resolve the sport’s ongoing governance issues.

The sub-committee of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) reviewed the matter with all stakeholders, including PHF officials, legal representatives, and the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry. After the discussions, the panel confirmed that Tariq Hussain Bugti’s appointment as president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation was legally valid. However, it stressed that his role was limited to holding timely elections, which have been delayed since 2023.

The committee also directed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to oversee the election process through its appointed commissioner. It further called for a proper review of hockey clubs with the help of local administrations to ensure transparency and credibility.

Alongside the election decision, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was instructed to speed up its inquiry into the financial affairs of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. The FIA is currently investigating more than 100 audit points related to PHF accounts, including alleged irregularities in expenses and financial management. Lawmakers urged the agency to complete its report within two months and make the findings public.

In recent weeks, the PSB had already demanded detailed financial disclosures from the federation, including income from properties, spending on foreign tours, and administrative expenses. Concerns were also raised about “unauthorized perks” claimed by officials.

The upcoming Pakistan Hockey Federation elections are seen as a key moment for the future of the sport. A transparent and fair election process could help restore confidence, strengthen accountability, and create a more stable foundation for hockey in Pakistan.
