Pakistan Freelancers Earn $856 Million in FY2025-26

Pakistani Freelancers are expanding their role in the global digital economy. Their earnings from international clients have risen sharply in fiscal year 2025–26. This growth highlights the country’s increasing presence in online services.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, Freelancers in IT and computer services earned $856 million by the third quarter of FY2025–26. In the same period last year, earnings stood at $567 million. This shows an increase of $289 million. The rise reflects strong global demand for Pakistani digital skills.

Industry leaders say more people are joining freelancing every month. Pakistan Freelancers Association Chairman Ibrahim Amin noted that training programs are helping this growth. Both public and private sectors are preparing youth for online work. As a result, the number of Freelancers is steadily rising.

Several institutions are supporting this ecosystem. These include the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and the Pakistan Software Export Board. The Special Investment Facilitation Council is also working to improve investment and digital growth. These efforts are boosting confidence in Pakistan’s tech sector.

However, challenges remain for many Freelancers. Internet slowdowns are affecting daily work. Unstable connections make it hard to meet deadlines. Power outages add to the problem. These issues can reduce income and harm online ratings.

The Asian Development Bank estimates that Pakistan has over 2.37 million freelancers. This places the country among the top freelance markets worldwide. Despite this, infrastructure problems continue to limit growth.

Recent maintenance work on a submarine cable also disrupted internet services. Many users faced slow speeds for several days. This situation exposed the need for better backup systems.

Experts suggest using satellite-based internet to reduce such risks. They also see hope in future 5G technology. Faster and stable internet could improve productivity for Freelancers and other digital workers.
