Pakistan Expands Air Connectivity with New Airport Projects Across the Country

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has launched several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving air travel and boosting regional connectivity. These initiatives include the construction of new airports in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), Dera Ismail Khan, and Hyderabad, along with the reconstruction of Sukkur Airport.

Officials report that the feasibility study for the Mirpur airport is nearly complete, marking a critical step in enhancing access to Azad Kashmir. In Dera Ismail Khan, land acquisition is currently underway, a move expected to resolve long-standing transportation challenges for southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nearby regions.

Briefing the National Assembly, PAA officials revealed plans to not only reconstruct Sukkur’s existing airport but also build a new one to transform it into a regional air hub. Given its strategic location, the upgraded Sukkur facility will significantly benefit the northern parts of Sindh.

In Hyderabad, the government has instructed the PAA to begin commercial flight operations at the existing airport. The plan also includes establishing an aviation training school at the site, aiming to promote skill development and create opportunities in the aviation sector.
