Can You Legally Tint Your Vehicle Pakistan Sets New Policy

The Government of Pakistan is finalizing a new policy to regulate tinted vehicle windows, allowing citizens to obtain legal permits in the future.

The Ministry of Interior has drafted a proposal titled “Policy/SOPs for Tinted Glass Permit 2025” and sent it to the Ministry of Law for review. The draft aims to create a formal framework for issuing permits and managing tinted vehicle regulations.

This initiative follows recommendations from the Senate Standing Committee, which called for a structured system to address tinted glass in vehicles. Officials said the new policy will reduce confusion and ensure clear rules for car owners.

Under the proposed policy, tinted vehicle windows will be allowed mainly for medical reasons or security concerns. Citizens meeting these criteria can apply for official permits once the policy is approved.

The draft policy also addresses vehicles that come with factory-installed tinted windows. Special permits will be issued for such vehicles to provide clarity and legal recognition for cars already equipped with tinted glass.

Officials highlighted that the issuance of tinted glass permits could also generate additional revenue for the government. Fees collected from applicants will contribute to state income while improving the regulation and documentation of tinted vehicles.

The Ministry of Interior has sent the draft policy to the Ministry of Law for legal review. Once the review is completed, the policy will move to the next stage of approval and consultation with stakeholders.

After stakeholder consultations, the Senate Standing Committee will review the policy and provide recommendations. Once approved, citizens will legally be able to obtain permits for tinted vehicle windows under this new framework.
