On Friday, Pakistan strongly condemned the Israeli Occupation forces for their actions in Gaza, labeling the collective punishment of the entire Palestinian population as “unacceptable.” They characterized these actions as “war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
Speaking during a debate on crimes against humanity at the General Assembly’s Sixth Committee, Pakistani delegate Rabia Ijaz, a second secretary at the Pakistan Mission to the UN, expressed concern over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. She pointed to indiscriminate aerial bombardment, which also targeted civilians and protected UN facilities.

In addition to these actions, the Pakistani delegate criticized the “inhumane blockade of food, fuel, and medicines” imposed by Israeli Occupation forces as a form of collective punishment against the entire Palestinian population in Gaza.
Ms. Ijaz emphasized that the current cycle of aggression and violence was a direct result of over seven decades of illegal Israeli occupation and disregard for international law, including UN Security Council resolutions recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
She called for the international community to work together toward a just, comprehensive, and lasting two-state solution, with a viable and sovereign State of Palestine along the pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital. She highlighted that peace in the Middle East would remain elusive without such a solution.
Ms. Ijaz also stressed the importance of global cooperation to eliminate impunity for perpetrators and ensure justice for victims. While she acknowledged the value of the International Law Commission’s draft articles on this matter, she noted that there is still some disparity in viewpoints and that discussions on their content have not reached a conclusive stage.
