Customs Cracks Down Massive Gold and Silver Seizures Reported

Pakistan Customs has seized 234.133 tolas (2.73 kg) of gold and 30,785 tolas (359 kg) of silver at international airports during the first five months of FY 2025-26.

The seized gold is valued at Rs. 100.67 million, while silver is worth Rs. 205.67 million, bringing the total to over Rs. 306 million. Officials said these seizures highlight growing efforts to curb smuggling and illegal trade.

Authorities have observed a sharp rise in silver smuggling attempts, driven by rising market prices and strict import restrictions. Smugglers are increasingly targeting silver as gold import controls tighten.

A spokesperson for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said Customs is committed to preventing smuggling and protecting the national economy. The enforcement drive aims to strengthen monitoring of precious metals and deter illicit trade.

Customs officials at major international airports have increased inspections and vigilance. They stressed that smuggling networks attempting to bypass regulations will face strict legal action.

The FBR reiterated that controlling smuggling of gold and silver is critical for economic stability. Authorities are using intelligence-led operations and enhanced screening measures to detect undeclared precious metals.

Officials said the drive also sends a clear message to those involved in illegal import activities. The Customs department will continue efforts to ensure compliance with national laws and prevent revenue losses.
