Pakistan Condemns Modi’s Hate Speech in Gujarat as ‘Reckless Provocation’

Pakistan strongly condemned recent remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat, describing them as a “hate-driven invocation of violence” and a worrying deviation from the political maturity expected of a leader of a nuclear-armed state.

The Foreign Office expressed serious concern over the increasingly hostile rhetoric from Indian leadership and called on the international community to recognize the threat such statements pose to regional stability.

Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan criticized Modi’s speech as more akin to an election campaign rally than the sober address expected of a head of government, warning that it could set a dangerous precedent in an already volatile region. He lamented the ongoing decline in political maturity and decency within Indian statecraft.

The spokesperson stressed that such provocative language violates the principles of the United Nations Charter, which requires member states to resolve disputes peacefully and abstain from threatening the sovereignty and political independence of other nations.

Shafqat Ali Khan asserted that Pakistan views these remarks as reckless provocations aimed at diverting attention from India’s ongoing human rights abuses and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s active role in UN peacekeeping missions and global counter-terrorism efforts, contrasting these with India’s aggressive rhetoric.

The statement pointed to concerns over rising majoritarianism, religious intolerance, and the marginalization of minorities in India under the Hindutva ideology—issues the Indian government must address.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace founded on mutual respect and sovereign equality, the spokesperson warned that any threat to Pakistan’s security or territorial integrity would be met with a firm and appropriate response in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The Foreign Office urged the international community to take serious note of India’s increasingly provocative statements, which undermine regional stability and prospects for lasting peace in South Asia.
