Pakistan has condemned Israel for its recent Doha Strike, rejecting the justification linking it to past US actions against Osama bin Laden. The Pakistani envoy called Israel’s defense of the strike “unacceptable” and highlighted violations of international law.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, addressed the Security Council, stating that Israel, as an occupying power, cannot abuse the Council’s platform. He criticized Israel for attempting to shift blame for its illegal actions. “By pointing fingers at others, Israel tries to mask its violations of international law,” he said.
The Doha Strike targeted a residential compound in Qatar, which housed negotiating teams involved in ceasefire and hostage negotiations. Pakistan and other UN members expressed concern that such attacks could undermine diplomacy and prolong civilian suffering in the region.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Dannon defended the strike, claiming it was necessary to target terrorists and asserting that there is “no sanctuary for terrorists” in Gaza, Doha, or Tehran. In response, Pakistan rejected any connection between the Doha Strike and the US’s past counterterrorism operations, calling such comparisons misleading and irrelevant.
Ambassador Ahmad emphasized Pakistan’s frontline role in global counterterrorism efforts, noting that the country has worked closely with partners to dismantle Al Qaeda networks. He condemned Israel for endangering mediators and peace negotiators, stressing that the Doha Strike sabotages ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani also condemned the strike, describing it as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty. He stated that the attack terrorized residents and targeted a mediator facilitating peace talks. The premier warned that Israel’s actions threaten regional stability and undermine efforts to achieve peace.
The UN Security Council debate highlighted growing international concern over the Doha Strike. Pakistan called for accountability and urged Israel to respect international law. The incident has raised questions about the protection of mediators and the future of peace negotiations in the Middle East.
