Pakistan is enduring one of its deadliest monsoon seasons, with the death toll reaching 645 amid unrelenting rains, floods, and landslides.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has cautioned of three more rain spells before September, raising fears of further devastation. NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider, in a press briefing, highlighted severe damage in northern regions including Buner, Bajaur, and Battagram, with Babusar in Gilgit-Baltistan among the worst-hit. He also confirmed a sudden cloudburst in Islamabad, worsening the crisis.
Authorities are rushing food, relief goods, and emergency aid to affected communities, while the military assists in evacuations and rescues. Surveys of flood-hit areas are underway, and efforts continue to reconnect cut-off regions.
The NDMA chief warned of heavier downpours in northern Punjab and KP in the days ahead, stressing climate change as a driving factor behind the unprecedented destruction. He assured that relief, rehabilitation, and regular updates will continue under government directives
