Pakistan Baitul Mal will offer 60 scholarships annually to deserving students in the Department of Sociology at the University of Peshawar. This comes under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.
Under the agreement, Pakistan Baitul Mal will allocate approximately Rs. 3.6 million each year to fund these scholarships. The program aims to support financially needy and talented students, ensuring that economic challenges do not prevent them from pursuing higher education.
The awards will be granted based on a combination of merit and financial need. Dr. Syed Owas, Chairman of the Department of Sociology, and Sheraz, Director Finance of Pakistan Baitul Mal, have been appointed as focal persons. They will oversee the implementation and ensure transparency in the process.
The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Anwar Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Noor Sanauddin, Associate Professor, and other faculty and administrative officials.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor praised Pakistan Baitul Mal for its long-standing support to deserving students across Pakistan. He instructed the focal persons to develop clear guidelines and transparent procedures for reviewing scholarship applications. A special committee will also be formed to manage the program effectively.
Representatives from Pakistan Baitul Mal expressed satisfaction over formalizing the partnership. They noted that this agreement strengthens decades of informal cooperation between the two institutions.
The organization also pledged to expand collaboration beyond scholarships. This includes supporting students’ fieldwork placements and research surveys on topics of mutual interest.
