Pakistan and Türkiye Leaders Discuss Middle East Tensions

Shehbaz Sharif and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation on Tuesday to review the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and discuss broader regional stability, according to official statements issued by both sides.

In a message posted on X, Prime Minister Sharif strongly criticized the recent Israeli strike on Iran, as well as what he described as subsequent attacks affecting other Gulf nations. He informed President Erdoğan that Pakistan had reached out to leaders in Gulf countries to express solidarity and reaffirmed Islamabad’s full support for them during the ongoing crisis. Sharif also conveyed Pakistan’s willingness to play a positive and constructive role in encouraging dialogue and easing tensions.

During the call, both leaders agreed that all parties involved must exercise maximum restraint to prevent further escalation. They also exchanged views on developments in Afghanistan and pledged to remain in close coordination in their shared efforts to promote peace and stability across the region.

According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, President Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s continued support for Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. He also noted Ankara’s role in facilitating past ceasefire efforts between Pakistan and Afghanistan and expressed readiness to contribute again if needed. Erdoğan emphasized the importance of reviving diplomatic engagement in light of recent attacks on Iran and signaled Türkiye’s willingness to assist in reducing tensions.

The discussion took place against the backdrop of intensifying hostilities in the Middle East, following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and reported missile activity across Gulf states, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
